NBA opening week sponsored content report: what top teams did with partners

NBA opening week sponsored content report: what top teams did with partners
Picture: SponCon Sports

A Sponcon Sports analysis with Mondo Metrics reviewed 11,919 posts from all 30 NBA teams across five platforms during opening week. About 11.7% carried a brand integration, producing 5.6M engagements and at least 42M views for 193 brands. The 76ers led sponsored engagement, Golden State dominated views thanks to a Steph Curry warmup trick shot backed by IREN, and Michelob ULTRA was the most featured sponsor, shifting toward a Courtside Moments series.

Standout ideas include jersey patch partners running surveys and uniform votes to gather first-party data, the Sixers' Bloom Energy 'Power Run' giveaway pushed via Instagram Stories, and series names that link naturally to the sponsor, such as Hornets x Lowe's 'Drilling Threes'. Swapping 'presented by' for phrases like 'Delivered By FedEx' and embedding promo codes in win graphics also added brand meaning without standalone ads.

The report flags a common flaw: sponsor logos too small or low-contrast to read on mobile. A simple fix for content teams is previewing creative on private accounts at real size before partner approval. Clubs in any league can borrow these tactics to make sponsored posts feel native, keep brands recognizable and build measurable value for renewals.

PGA Tour Lands Short-Term Sponsor for Austin Event After Good Good Golf Exit

The PGA Tour has found a partial replacement for Good Good Golf, the creator group that withdrew from sponsoring and hosting a new Austin tournament after backlash over a controversial Callaway driver ad. Compliance Solutions, a Florida tax services firm already backing a Korn Ferry Tour event, will become presenting sponsor of the renamed Austin Championship for this year only, paying less than the $6 million Good Good had committed.

The reduced fee reflects how little time remains to activate: practice rounds start in about 11 days, leaving the sponsor almost no runway for promotion. Meanwhile, Good Good has also lost its Callaway deal, its Golf Channel show and retail placement for its merchandise, showing how quickly a creator brand's commercial ecosystem can unravel after a misstep.

Gen Z app Posting2 grows with chronological, ad-free, algorithm-free photo feed

Posting2 is a small app built as a throwback to early Instagram: square photos, a chronological feed, no algorithm, no ads and no celebrities, with lots of casual everyday posts. According to Fast Company, it grew from 1,600 beta users in April to 36,671 users by October 21, and Sensor Tower recorded a 42% jump in downloads in September versus August.

The app is still tiny, but it reflects a slice of Gen Z that wants to see friends' posts without algorithmic curation. For clubs and athletes, it is a reminder that raw, imperfect and authentic content is regaining value.

Reddit rolls out algorithmic For You feed to boost community discovery

Reddit is launching a For You feed that uses its engagement data to recommend posts and subreddits users have not yet joined. It sits alongside a Following feed for communities people already belong to. The For You tab gets the prominent first slot, but it is not the default: the app reopens on whichever feed a user last viewed. The rollout is global over the next few weeks.

For sports teams, this shifts Reddit from a closed-community platform toward one where content can reach fans who have never visited a club's subreddit. Discussions around matches, transfers and behind-the-scenes moments could now surface for casual followers of a league or sport, making official and fan-run communities a potential growth channel rather than just a place to serve existing supporters.
