In the evolving landscape of social media in sports, rugby clubs are increasingly using digital platforms to shape identity, engage fans, and build consistency. This week on sports content playbook, we analyse how two French rugby clubs – Nissa Rugby and Rugby Club Massy Essonn – approach their communication strategies with different nuances but similar foundations.

Nissa Rugby’s communication is strongly design-led. The club relies heavily on graphic assets to announce matchdays and final results, complemented by photo carousels and match summaries. Where Nissa truly stands out is in its more creative content: behind-the-scenes videos following the team bus on the way to games generate strong viewership, while training-ground reels add freshness and authenticity. The club also benefits from playful content involving its mascot, creating moments of interaction between players and fans. In parallel, Nissa publishes corporate-style content, often linked to French rugby structures and featuring its own players, reinforcing institutional credibility.

Rugby Club Massy Essonne follows a more structured and calendar-driven approach. Designs are central to its communication, especially for matchday announcements, league standings, and final scores. A season calendar graphic is pinned and acts as a reference point for fans. Content volume often depends on results: wins generate richer output, while losses lead to more restrained posting. In terms of Reels, engagement tends to rise when content is co-published with larger profiles such as national rugby media, with match recaps remaining the core video format. Like Nissa, Massy rarely activates sponsor-led content.

Both cases show how content creators within clubs adapt resources to their realities, proving that consistency often matters more than scale in social media in sports.

Tip of the Week

Clubs don’t need constant innovation – mixing strong design systems with occasional behind-the-scenes content can significantly boost engagement. On Sports Content Playbook, we see that balance consistently outperform volume.
